Elena Maldonado, a senior double-majoring in Creative Writing and Theater Arts – Directing, is the winner of the The Great Migrations Social Justice Academy "Picture Migration" photo contest.
“The photo depicts an airplane in descent, a slanted horizon, and streaks of water pushed by the wind on the window of the airplane, reminding us of the plane of the photo itself. Like the landing of many immigrants in the U.S. the landing of the airplane in this photo is not only not peaceful but frightening. Another story of hope against the odds," Manolo Estavillo, Associate Professor of Politics and Human Rights.
Honorable mentions were given to photos by Film and Media Production major Jamison Roy and Digital Journalism major Kathryn McCrery.
